Question of the Day 12/12/13

What is an allegory and why is it a powerful way to express an idea? 

-An allegory is a work of literature that has characters and events that represent something more significant that has happened. I believe it is a powerful way to express an idea because it is a simpler way to allow people to understand the real aspects of any chosen event. 

Exploratory Writing

In my honest opinion, I do somewhat agree with Squealer's speech for a few reasons. For one, I do believe that a leader is needed to be able to make decisions for people, because a good leader will take in the opinions and do what is best for the majority of the people. I believe that sometimes, if people don't have leaders, they will make the wrong decisions and something bad may happen. But he does state that Napoleon does believe all animals are equal, and because he believes that, I think he should be able to let the animals make decisions for themselves, since Napoleon was becoming corrupt with power. 

What makes a good leader?

In my opinion, I do not thing intelligence should be the only reason for someone to rule. Yes, having intelligence may help, but a good leader must be able to relate to the common people and be able to do what is best in the interest of the people. Intelligence will only get a leader so far, and I feel that if they do not use their intelligence in good ways, it won't work out. However, this process wasn't a big major part in the process of picking the leader for my society. We didn't take these factors into consideration, and our leader did volunteer, but I believe that our leader is worthy of being an acceptable leader for our society.

           This year, I am thankful for so many things. First of all, I'm thankful for my well being, and still being healthy as a 15 year old in the 21st century. I am glad to not be sick during this holiday, and have a healthy immune system to prevent me from being sick often. I'm also thankful for all the people I've met in my life, all of my family and friends, because without them, I wouldn't be who I am today. The people in my life have shaped my character and have guided me in life in some kind of way. I am also thankful to be a swimmer, because it's pretty much my life at this point. I've met so many amazing people just from swimming alone, and from just that, I've experienced a lot of things that have made me stronger today. Last but not least, I am thankful to have met Christian Aguilar in my life. He was one of the most amazing people I've had the honor of meeting in my life. Rest in peace.
